Cooperation and compromise are two words sorely missing from today?s divisive political climate. On the national level, Americans view Congress with a dim 12 percent approval rating because, let?s face it ? some elected officials simply can?t and won?t work together to accomplish the nation?s business.
Sadly, working for common good has been misplaced by polarization and nay votes for the sake of being obstinate.
Here in Thurston County, our votes can support fellow citizens with a proven record of working together effectively on the county?s business. With so many issues extending through dozens of groups and agencies, a spirit of cooperation is crucial. It takes time, dedication and fine-tuned listening skills to build relationships that work.
Cathy Wolfe, Thurston County commissioner for District 1, has repeatedly shown the ability to ?get ?er done? through cooperation. Cathy has membership in 12 agencies, partnerships with local jurisdictions and involvement in numerous citizens groups. She has worked with the other commissioners to balance the budget, create drug and mental health courts, and meet statewide environmental requirements.
Her long-term relationships both outside and inside county government do indeed serve the common good ? and the spirit of cooperation ? right here on our home turf.
