Arkansas Interim Head Football Coach John L. Smith Files For Bankruptcy Arkansas football coach John L. Smith, thrust into the interim role after Bobby Petrino's midlife crisis, is facing a crisis of his own after filing for Chapter 7 bankruptcy liquidation in an Arkansas court today.

The preliminary filing lists Smith as owing between $10 million and $50 million while possessing assets between $1 million and $10 million. It's not a huge surprise, as Smith reported engaging in a few shady land deals while serving as Louisville's head coach and the spectre of his filing for bankruptcy has hung over the Razorbacks' head ever since he was named interim coach on April 24th. He'll make $850,000 in his ten months coaching Arkansas, and it's not yet known if the proceedings will encroach upon the Razorbacks' regular season; I'm guessing the courts don't move with SEC speed.
