The list of conservatives either leaving, or at least expressing their disappointment with the new GOP, is growing daily. Back in March GOP ?rising star,? ex-Marine and California Legislator Nathan Fletcher said ?I don?t believe we have to treat people we disagree with as an enemy? and dumped the party to become an independent. Last January, Jeff Wartman, a conservative blogger and former elected official within the GOP said ?I?m leaving the Republican Party. No longer can I say with a clear conscience that the Republican Party is focused on solving problems that will benefit average Americans.? In February, Roger Stone, former chairman of the Young Republicans, member of the Westchester, NY Republican County Committee, Nixon staffer and chairman of Citizens for Reagan left the party saying ?To put it bluntly, the Republican Party is hopelessly f**** up.? And then today we have former GOP presidential candidate John Huntsman saying he won?t go the the GOP convention because ?the party has become too narrow and divisive? and conservative Federal judge Richard Posner saying ?I?ve become less conservative since the Republican Party started becoming goofy.?
Perhaps our GOP friends will listen to some of their more astute cohorts and if not leave the party at least work to reform it and vote out those who have taken it to uncompromising extremes.
