Harris Corp. has delivered a new radio control system to the Federal Aviation Administration for use in the National Airspace System, the company announced Tuesday.
Liberty Radio Control Equipment is now in operation at the FAA?s Air Route Traffic Control Center in Houston for air and ground radio communications throughout the Gulf of Mexico, including remote oil platforms.
The system uses Voice over Internet Protocol, which supports the agency?s SE 2020 project to transform the U.S. air transport system.
John O?Sullivan, vice president of mission critical networks within government communications systems, said in a release the FAA chose Liberty RCE for air traffic control communications in remote environments.

Liberty RCE emulates many radio links and offers radio control over different transmission mediums, according to the company.
The commercial-off-the-shelf gateway product is interoperable with voice communication and control systems such as ATM radios, the company said.
