It was 21 years ago today that David and I were married here in Las Vegas. We drove into Las Vegas from California knowing we were getting married, but not sure where. We stopped at one of those ?Welcome Centers? where we got information on various wedding packages. We decided on the Candlelight Wedding Chapel, which was located right on the Strip, right next to the Riviera. It?s said that that celebrities Bette Midler, Michael Caine, Whoopi Goldberg and Barry White married there too. Sadly, Candlight is no longer in business or even present on the Strip ? it?s home is now with the Clark County Heritage Museum in Henderson, Nevada.
A limo picked us up at our hotel (Palace Station) and took us to get our marriage license and then onto the chapel for our ceremony with a small gathering of our family and friends ? and our daughter, Wellie, who was just barely 1 1/2 months old.
The rest of the night was probably odd by most wedding night standards, but you know, I don?t think I?d change it for the world. We ate at the Palace Station Buffet for dinner?.looking back I think how cheesy, but remembering my mood from the night, I was so happy and carefree, I didn?t care where I ate! We walked the Strip a bit too, but I mostly only remember going into Caesars Palace.
I know everyone says this, but it was truly one of the best days of my life. We were very young (don?t we look like babies in those photos?!?!) and I won?t lie ? it hasn?t always been easy ? but I have never regretted our decision. He?s been my world since the moment we had our first kiss and am the luckiest woman in the world to have him as my husband.
So, Happy Anniversary to us! Even though August 5th is our official annivesary, we weren?t able to go out today, so tomorrow we will be enjoying a belated anniversary date with a hotel stay away from the kids, dinner out and night at the movies?I can?t wait!
