Alameda County Superior Court Judge Thomas Reardon sentenced 23-year-old Devaughndre Broussard on Friday after determining that he had testified truthfully in the case. That was a requirement of his plea deal with prosecutors.

Broussard confessed to killing Oakland Post editor Chauncey Bailey in August 2007.

His sentencing comes after lawyers of two other men convicted in the case claim he lied when he testified against them.

Broussard said former Your Black Muslim Bakery leader Yusuf Bey IV ordered him and Antoine Mackey to kill Bailey. Bey wanted to prevent a story about the bakery's financial troubles from being published.

Prosecutors say Bey and Mackey ? both 25 years old ? will be sentenced to life in prison Aug. 26.
