NAOMBAKAZI.COM: Research Scientist Position - Self Organizing ...

The Qatar Mobility Innovations Center (QMIC), Doha, Qatar, invites applications for a full-time Research Scientist (Postdoctoral Fellow) in the area of Wireless Communications Systems with focus on Self-Organizing Networks (SON). The expected start date is Oct-Nov-2012.

RESEARCH OUTLINE:
The candidate is expected to pursue research in area of SON in context of next generation heterogeneous cellular system. The focus will remain on the radio access side of the cellular networks. The objective is to investigate novel theoretical as well heuristic SON solutions that will help to enhance performance of emerging and next generation cellular systems in terms of capacity, QoS, energy efficiency and economy of deployment and operation. To this end candidate will be required to propose, develop and investigate new advanced mechanisms and algorithms within following five themes:

  1. Enabling SON: e.g. minimization of drive test, autonomous estimation of KPIs at BSs.
  2. Self-configuration: e.g. Automatic configuration of neighbor relationship list, radio frequency.
  3. Self-Optimization: e.g. Automatic optimization of antenna parameters, self-optimization cell sizes for energy savings.
  4. Self-Healing: e.g. Cell outage detection, root cause analysis and compensation mechanism design.
  5. Self-Coordination: Solutions to avoid parametric and objective based conflicts among multiple concurrently operational SON algorithms.

The candidate will play the role of a key researcher on a new three year project funded by Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF). The project consortium consists of teams from QMIC, Qatar; University of Surrey, UK and CTTC, Spain.
In addition to producing high quality publications, pursuing pragmatic solutions that will have direct relevance to the industry and can be put forth to pertinent standardization bodies, is among the key intended outcomes of the project.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:?
Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or Applied Mathematics by the time of appointment. Key job requirements that will be used as selection criteria include:

Essential:
  • Strong and proven background in at least two of the following disciplines:
    1. Mathematical Modeling & Optimization Theory
    2. Artificial Intelligence & Learning Theory
    3. Automation and Control theory
    4. Operations Research
  • Command on radio access architecture of cellular systems, notably LTE/LTE-A.
  • Strong English communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Ability to work independently
Desirable:
  • Ability to develop and run sophisticated simulation models e.g. in Matlab or C++
  • Prior industry experience is an asset.

EMPLOYEMENT DETAILS:
The position is available from October 2012. Interested candidates are requested to send a detailed CV (including the names of at least three referees), list of publications, graduate studies transcript of records (stating the relevant taught courses taken), 1-2 page research statement (summarizing how their past work provides them the background required for this project) and a cover letter clearly addressing the selection criteria, to?alii@qmic.com?via the?Apply?button below?with subject 'SON-RS-2012'. Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.
