The mood in Cupertino, Calif., home of Apple's headquarters, must be dour right now. Not only is the company's new iOS?Maps app being dragged through the mud to the point of Apple CEO Tim Cook issuing a public apology for the inferior product, but now Google Maps, one of the competing mapping solutions, received what is described as?its "biggest Street View update ever."
According to the official Google Maps blog, the search engine giant's popular mapping feature now has?twice the number of "special collections"???destinations which can be explored from the comfort of your?home???and over 250,000 miles of updated roads.
This major Street View update follows?the addition of the feature to the Web app version of Google Maps.?This means that you can take advantage of the new details from any mobile device?? yes, even from an iPhone?? by?heading?to?maps.google.com, looking up a place that interests you, and dropping a map pin. Once you do that, you'll find that there's a little figure in the lower right corner. Tap on it and you'll be switched over to Street View.?
Want more tech news?or interesting?links? You'll get plenty of both if you keep up with Rosa Golijan, the writer of this post, by following her on?Twitter, subscribing to her?Facebook?posts,?or circling her?on?Google+.
