Commuters hit as high winds batter south London

Commuters across south London are facing possible delays this morning amid weather warnings.

High winds are gripping the south east, with bridges closed and falling trees hitting drivers and cyclists.

A Met Office forecaster warned: "A spell of wet and very windy weather will affect the UK during Tuesday.

"The public should be aware of the possibility of disruption due to strong winds, e.g. to travel.

"A spell of heavy rain will also affect many regions, leading to localised flooding."

Earlier, a tree fell on the southbound A217 at Banstead, near the Junction of Garret Lane, although this has now been cleared.

In Oxshott, there is a fallen tree on Warren Lane, near the Railway Station, and the road is partly blocked.

Further afield, the QE2 Bridge closed at 6.30am because of the wind, with traffic being diverted through the East Bore of the Dartford Tunnel.
